How to install Citrix XenApp 6.5

This is the procedure to install Citrix XenApp 6.5 step by step on a single server in Lab environment.

Before installation of XenApp 6.5 we need to configure following.

  • Windows server 2008 R2 SP1 64bit for XenApp, Web Interface and licensing server
  • Windows 7 64bit
Best way is to install XenApp on server registered with Active directory domain controller but we can install it in a workgroup. In this Lab we will install XenApp in a Work group

We need to configure following windows components before starting setup. 
  • Windows Firewall
  • IE ESC (Enhanced Security Configuration)
To disable windows Firewall Open command prompt and type:
Netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state off

We can disable Windows Firewall manually. Open Control Panel and chose Windows Firewall


Select Turn windows firewall on or off and turn off windows firewall.

To disable IE enhanced security Open Server Manager and click on Configure IE ESC


Turn off settings for both Administrators and users.


Now we can start XenApp installation. Insert The DVD in DVD ROM. and click on Install XenApp Server.


You need to install .Net Framework 3.5. If it is already installed you will be prompted for next step. 

Click on Add server roles to start the setup of XenApp Server

Choose XenApp edition. Features available to install will vary. If you want to test the new XenApp 6.5 using a 90 day evaluation license, choose Platinum Edition, because you can test all features. We are going to use Platinum Edition



Accept the license agreement and click next.


I am going to install XenApp, License Server and Web Interface.


Chose role sub components. I have selected XML Server IIS Integration.


You will now be prompted how the installation is going to plan out and what restarts are required.


Review what is going to be installed and click Install.


XenApp Installation will start.


A reboot is required click Finish.


Once you clicked on finish on the screen you will now be prompted to Reboot the XenApp Server. Click on the Reboot Link within the rose manager.

After reboot log back in to the server with the user you used to install XenApp and you will be prompted to resume the installation. Click on resume install. 


You will see the following screen. Click on Finish


Now you will be asked to configure XenApp Licensing, Web Interface and Licensing Server.


First we will configure License Server. Click on configure. Set the admin password and leave the ports as defaults. Click OK


Now License server is configured. 


Now Open License Administration Console under the All programs in start menu and log on to Administration.


Now Locate the vendor daemon configuration and click on import license file. Browse your license file location and click on import license. Restart license server and you will see your license.


Now from server Role manager window click on XenApp Specify License. Specify the Licensing Server name and Click on Test Connection. Test is successful. Click Close and Click Next and specify you edition.


From the server Role Manager click Xenapp Configuration. Click Create a new server Farm. Name the Farm click next. Chose a database for new server farm.


Click on new Database and enter cridentials for database admin. Click Next. 


Click Apply to save farm Configurations. 



Click Finish. 

From Server Role Manager windows click Configure Web Interface. 


Click on Create Site. Leave the settings default and click Next


Specify Point of Authentication. At Web Interface and Click Next


Confirm Settings for new site and click Next



Click Next and configure site. Add Server name. 


Select Configuration method Explicit and Pass-through and click next. 


Allow Any Domain. Click Next


Specify Log on Screen Appearance Full and click Next


Specify Published Resource Type to Dual Mode and click Next.


Confirm settings and click Finish. 


Now all there selected server roles are configured. 

You can now Access the Citrix site from Network. 

http://servername/Citrix/xenapp

You need to configure xenapp more according to your requirements.
