How To Install and Configure Citrix XenApp 7.6 and Publish Desktops and Applications (Part-3)

In Previous post (Part-1 and Part-2)we have configured delivery group for Citrix XenApp. Now we have to create a Citrix Store Front to use with Delivery Group.

Open Citrix Studio. and Click on Citrix StoreFront And Click Create Store.


Name the store and click Next.





Click Add to add the delivery controller. Enter display name and click Add for Server. Enter the Server name XenApp. set Transport Type to HTTP and port 80 and click OK





Click Next.



Click Create.



Click Finish.



Now we have to assign the newly created StoreFront to Delivery Group. Click on StoreFront under Configurataion in Citrix Studio. Click Add StoreFront Server



Enter Store Name, Description and URL. Click OK



Click on Delivery Groups and click on Edit Delivery Group. 


On StoreFront Click Apply and OK.


We are done with configuration now. Installed Cirtix XenApp, Created a Site, Created Delivery Group, Installed VDA, Created Machine Catalog, Created Store Front Server, Assigned StroeFront server to Delivery Group.

Logon to a client machine, I am using Windows 10 Pro. Install Citrix Receiver on that client machine. Open the browser and enter your Xenapp URL i.e. http://xenapp.domain.com.pk/citrix/store1web


Click Log On and you will see following.


Click on XenApp 76. Your Xeandesktop connection to server will open and you will see publishes apps for logged in user. As we have published Adobe Reader and Paint.



For published Apps click on Apps Button


Click + button and you will see Published Apps for Logged in User.


Click on Each app you want to display on main page.


You can configure Citrix according to your requirements and manage polices for XenApp and XenDesktop from Polices tab in Cirtix Studio.

Thats All for now, We have configured Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop Trial on Windows server 2012 R2 in Windows Server 2008 Domain environment.

In previous part we have installed Citris XenApp 7.6, Managed Licenses, Created a Site, Installed Virtual Delivery Agent on Windows Server 2012 R2 in Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain Environment.

Now we have to Create Machine Catalog and Deliver Group.

Open Citrix Studio and click "Set up machines for desktops and applications or remote PC access"



Click Next



Select Windows Server OS and Click Next.



Click Next.



Click Add Computers and Add the Machines in your domain.


Click Next



Enter Machine Catalog Name and Catalog Description



Click Finish and you will see machine catalog setup is completed.


Now Click on "Set up Delivery Groups to assign desktops and applications to your users"



Click Next.



Choose the number of machines for this delivery group to 1 and click Next.



Choose Delivery type "Desktop and applications" and click Next.



Add users or groups. I am adding Domain Users. Click Next.


Select Applications and click Next. I have selected Paint and Adobe Reader.


Select the Application and click ok Application Properties to change its Delivery Options. Click OK and Click Next.


Click Next.


Set the Delivery Group name, Display Name, Description and click Finish.



Now Citrix XenApp Delivery Group is ready.


In Next Post We will configure Store Front and assign it to  delivery group.

How To Install and Configure Citrix XenApp 7.6 and Publish Desktops and Applications (Part-1)

We are going to install and configure Citrix XenApp 7.6 on Windows server 2012 R2 in Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain environment. This step by step installation include how to install XenApp 7.6, Delivery Controller, The Virtual Delivery Agent, Creating a site, Machine Catalog and delivery group for publishing desktops and applications.

After Installing Windows Server 2012 R2 we need to install Desktop Experience. In Server Manager Click on "Add roles and features" click Next and click "Role-based or Feature-based installation" click Next and select the server and click next.


Do not select anything in the server roles and under Features select "Desktop Experience" 



Click next and click install


After Installation server will restart. As we are installing in a Windows server 2008 R2 Domain environment. Join this server to the domain.

Prerequisites for XenApp 7.6


  • Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 (Only for Windows Server 2008 R2)
  • Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5
  • Windows Powershell 2.0 for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Powershell 3.0 for Windows Server 2012
  • Microsoft Management Console 3.0
  • Visual C++ 2005
  • Visual C++ 2008 SP1
  • Visual C++ 2010
Logon to the server with Domain Administrator the launch the Citrix Installer. 


Click Start for XenApp and Click on Delivery Controller.



Click on "I have read, understand, and accept the terms of the license agreement" and click Next.


Select all the Components and click Next.


Select all the features and click Next.


Click Next.


Click Install.


Select Launch Studio and Click Finish.


You will see following.




Now open your Mycitrix account and Allocate your license. Enter host name and click continue.


Click Confirm


Click OK to download and save your license file.


Now Open in browser http://xenapp:8082/dashboard
Following page will open.



Click on administration and login with domain admin. Under Verndor Daemon Configuration click on Import License.



Browse the path to license file and click open. after Import click on Citrix.



Click on Reread license file.



Now you have to restart the Vendor Daemon. Open services.msc and restart following services.


Open Citrix Studio, Click on "Deliver applications and desktops to your users" 


Select "A fully configured, Production-ready Site (recommended for new users)" and Enter Site name



Enter Database name and click Test Connection


As database is new. Click OK to create a new database.


You will see following.


Select your license and click Next



Select No machine management and click Next



Select No for App-V Publishing and click Next



Click Finish on Summary page


Site configuration is completed.


You may click Test Site configuration. Click on Licensing Tab in left pane. You can see your trial license remaining days.



Now we have to Install Virtual Delivery Agent on Windows Server 2012. You can install VDA on separate windows server to deliver applications and desktops.  We are going to install it on same machine where we have installed XenApp.

Run the Citrix Setup and click on Virtual Delivery Agent for Windows Server OS



Click "Enable connection to server machine" Click Next



Click Citrix Receiver and click Next.


Enter the FQDN of XenApp server and click Test connection



Click Add.



Click Next.


Click Next



Click Install




Click Close and it will reboot.


After the reboot the setup continues, Click Finish to restart the machine.


virtual delivery agent has been installed. In next part we will Create Machine Catalog and Delivery Group
