How to Install Microsoft Lync 2013 On Windows Server 2008 R2 (Part-1)


We are going to install Microsoft Lync 2013 Standard Edition Front End on Windows server 2008 R2.

First of all we have to update Windows server 2008 R2 SP1 with all important required updates. After Updating Prepare your windows server 2008 R2 for Lync 2013 Front End server.


  • Server Requirements
                    Front End server must be joined to domain                                                      

  • Install Silverlight                                                                                                                             Download and install Silverlight  http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/

  • Front End Must have these Features
    • Roles
      • Web Server (IIS)
    • Features

Open Server Manager and Enable .Net Framework 3.5 Features, Click Next


Select Required Web Server IIS Role features Mentioned above. and click Next and click Install.



Download and install .Net Framework 4.5

Download and install Windows Identity Foundation

Download and Install Windows Management Framwork 3.0

Restart the system.

Finally we need following fix if you did not install the windows update (KB2646886)
Heap corruption occurs when a module calls the InsertEntityBody method in IIS 7.5 

Check for windows Updates again and install important updates. 
Restart the system and log-in with Domain Administrator Account.

Install Active Directory Administrative tools. These tools are installed under windows feature under Remote Server Administration. After restart log-in with domain admin account open server manager and let the feature installation finished.

Open DVD Media and Run Setup\amd64\Setup.exe


Click Install, Accept the terms and license agreement and click Ok


Now we have to prepare the Active directory. Click Prepare Active Directory


Run Prepare Schema, Current Forest, Current Domain, Checking Replications.



After Preparation we will have.



Now Click Prepare first Standard Edition Server. Click Next



Click finish to complete the prepare single standard edition server step.


After Preparing the single standard edition click install Administrative tools. This will install the administrative tools that will be used to deploy Lync server.


Now on Domain Controller We have to add three DNS records. Open DNS Manager, Right clik domain and click other new records.


Select Service Location (SRV) and Click Create Record

Set the following Values:
Service = _sipinternaltls
Protocol = _tcp
Port Number = 5061
Host offering his service = mydc.mydomain.local.

Now we have to create 3 Host records, meet, dialin, admin in DNS server. Right Click Domain and click New Host (A or AAAA)


We have created 3 host records and 1 SRV record. This completes the DNS configuration for Lync Server.
